July 30 2010 after surgery

WELL here we are. Kye's out of surgery, everything went well. The doctor plicated the
diaphragm. He said he can't say why the diaphragm was elevated like that. Part of it is moving, there wasn't a hernia or a thin spot so...??? This kid, I tell ya, is playing by his own rules and he's not telling anyone what they are! We just gotta keep guessing! Anyway the doc said this should do the trick. I suppose we'll have to see what happens. Right now he's rather drugged up and unhappy in general. Here are a few pictures...

Here he is right when we got into the room before surgery. He was happy for about 5 minutes until the excitement of a new place wore off and his hunger kicked in.

Doing a little exploring with grandpa...

Grammy giving the Boy some much needed love. At this point he was just not having any of it! We were walking, getting toys out, playing, singing, making faces, you name it we did it and he could care less! He wanted to EAT! Sorry baby!...
THEN they gave him his cocktail..and he reeelaaaxed. A whole lot! I uploaded a video before this post of our little Boogie well on his way to happy town! Pretty cute a whole lot funny and a little disturbing all rolled into one tiny little clip.

Here's one right as the concoction was brushing the edges of his anger away.

And hunger completely forgotten. ha ha

After surgery. That was more to take. He has a bloody tube in his chest to help with drainage, it should come out tomorrow, and two other tiny holes where the doc went in. He's drugged up, hungry and uncomfortable. He wanted to cry but didn't have enough energy, it was pretty pitiful, honestly. He's much better now. Here he is after a nice warm bottle and some cuddling from Mama... and now Grandma's having a turn. I'll keep ya posted as much as I can. The previous posts are sent by text. I don't know why they're so confusing but, I suppose they got the job of informing done. Thanks so much for all of your prayers, dances and vibes we did it again! Kye's come out on top!

July 12, 2010

We went out to uncle Johnny's and aunt Cindy's for some pool fun and pasta this past weekend! Kye really enjoyed himself in the pool and loved meeting more of his family.
Below is uncle Johnny, Kye, aunt Kimmy and cousin Ava...oh and cousin Devin hang'n loose behind them. I suppose they're seconds to Kye as they are my dad's bro and sis but, honestly whats the difference. My dad was surely smiling down on that day! We had a few missing members but theres plenty of time to do this again...and I can't wait till we're all chill'n together! It was an awesome day, lots of laughs, hugs and of course aunt Cindy's amazing pasta...an Arcobasso family recipe. It has sausage, pork, meatballs, eggs, the works! Beautifully done! I had some more later that night and then again today! Here's aunt Cindy love'n on the boy.

So today we went to see the surgeon about his diaphragm. After talking with us about Kye's history and looking at his file he said the surgery would be the next right thing to do. When he came back after looking at his x-ray he said the diaphragm looks like a bubble in the middle, elevated into his lung. What he'll do is go in with a small camera and take a look at the middle, the spot that can't be seen with the x-ray, CAT scan, etc... he suspects it's one of three things, a hernia (which is just jargon for 'hole in the tissue') in which case he'll sew it up, a thin spot or it's paralysed. In the latter two cases he'll tack the affected right to the working left side, which will allow the left to pull the right side down with it, opening up space in the lung. He said if it's a hernia it may start working on it's own once it's closed. That would be nice. We'll see, of course nothing he said was definitive. He used allot of words like, 'theoretically' and 'it's possible' nothing solid like, 'this is the problem and I can fix it' like I wanted to hear but, he was pretty positive so I'll take it. I'm happy about the decision. I'm sad he's got to go through this. It seems he's been holding in limbo for so long...He's gaining enough weight not to worry but, just barely, his O2 levels are good but when he gets sick we hold our breath...no pun intended. We've been waiting for this issue to fix itself or vanish or for him to 'get past it' for a year now. Always hoping the next doctors appointment will be 'the one' they tell us his diaphragm is better. It's always in the back of our minds...this problem lung...allergies...sneezes...runny noses, they all cause a flash of Kye gasping for air or in a hospital bed hooked up to IV's. I'm relieved to be honest, I think I finally exhaled when he told us...then later I wanted to cry. Funny how that happens huh? My heart sank and I felt like a weight lifted all at once.
Anyway, it's scheduled for the 30th. He'll go in with the camera and fix the problem all at once, should take about an hour or so. Kye will be in the hospital for only a day or two. Regardless of how 'simple' this sounds, it's still scary, so please say a prayer, conjure up some good strong mojo or dance a happy dance, whatever it is you do to put out positive vibes, do it and and send some his way. He'll appreciated it ;-)
I'll be sure to keep you posted.

Family reunion 2010

Ahhh the family reunion pictures... Here's Daddy, Grandma and Kye the night before. Wow was it a hot day! The pool was the place to be for sure!

Aunt Linda got him this awesome car floaty, too bad the little booger wanted to flip out of it! Maybe in a month or so he'll be able to enjoy it. We'll keep trying!

Had to put this in there...Ryan and BJ...I don't know what to say! Ryan's either showing off his physique or about to go fight crime, I can't decide and BJ...well if he had hair I'd say he's flinging it over his shoulder in a seductive manner but....

Awe great picture..well, besides the creeper peeking in on the corner!

This year my brother was deemed an honorary member of the Kapeller clan!! Kye and his Uncie Mikey had a blast in the pool. I'm so happy he was able to come, he's off to Afghanistan for a year in July so this was a pretty special visit. "We'll see you next year, Uncie!"

All that swimming has worn the Boy out!

My boys chill'n around the table.
The reunion was awesome as usual! We didn't play as many games as we had in the past, it was so hot most of us stayed in the pool. Completely fine with me!
Kye had his CAT scan on Monday. It was strange watching him under sedation. At first it was cute, he was loopy and giggly. After they were done and he came back to me it was pitiful. He couldn't open his eyes, he was uncomfortable, hungry and irritated. The nurse said he probably feels off balance, dizzy and has double vision. That lasted for about an hour. Just crying. He had to start with pediolite, which he's not fond of so nothing was making him happy.
Anyway, the doc called and said his diaphragm is still elevated. He was hoping it would come down some as he grows but it's still constricting air flow to his right lung. His liver is also elevated which, is more then likely a result of the lung/diaphragm. It's healthy and not of concern but he wanted to note it anyway. He has recommended that we see the surgeon for a consultation regarding placation...the operation the will tack his right diaphragm to his left. So we'll see what he says that appointment is in a few weeks si, I'll keep you posted.
