The Boy has a bug!!!

It was bound to happen sooner or later. I’m so happy that we were able to keep him bug free for 10 months! He’s bigger and stronger now and can handle a virus MUCH better then even a month ago. Still, because of his lung and prematurely, he’s got to under go a little more then a term baby…hence the nebulizer.

I want to thank each and every one of you who religiously washed your hands before, or have patiently waited to love on the boy. I know some thought it a little over protective but, this is exactly what I wanted to avoid at least while he was so small and vulnerable. It was tough on me to stay on top of it, I felt strange asking, “Have you washed your hands?” every time someone came sweet talking. I’m glad I did and I’m also glad I don’t have to be crazy anymore! Don’t get me wrong, every time I hear a cough, a sneeze or a sniffle, for a second I wonder if he’ll get it and end up in the hospital. Yes, every time. But I’m working on that. I know I can’t keep him germ free for life; I was however, shooting for at least 10 years! Anyway, I thank you, Kye thanks you and Zeke thanks you for keeping him cootie free and happy for 10 whole months!!

So as you can see little booger butt isn’t feeling great. I took him to the doctor yesterday. He’s got a nasty cough, hasn’t been eating well and he’s wheezing.

He’s a pretty good sport about it though; he’s fairly chipper and smiley. The doc checked his o2 level (97 which is good) listened to his chest, took his temp (97-for him is slightly high) sent us for a precautionary X-ray (they called today-it’s fine) and weighed him (15.8lbs!!!). She said it’s just a virus and will have to work its way out. We have to give him breathing treatments every 4 hours for a few days then 6 hours, then 12 hours till the cough/wheezing is gone, except when he’s asleep, unless of course he wakes up having a coughing fit. So far he’s the same as yesterday; she wants us to call in if there are any changes…so keep your fingers and toes crossed! It doesn’t look serious at this point; I’m hoping to keep it that way! I’ve already cleaned all his toys with disinfectant! Is that weird? ;-)

"Happy Birthday Grandma Byrd!!!!"

We didn't do a thing this weekend and it was wonderful! Sunday was a perfectly lazy day. The rain beat down on the awnings, the phones were off, blinds closed, me and my boys piled on the couch! Beautiful.Simply beautiful.
These pictures are from last weekend. We went to see a friend out of town and stayed in a hotel. It was a great time. Kye adapted pretty well to the new surroundings. We spent a lot of time outside, which felt nice after what seemed like such a long winter! He even got to go (indoor) swimming! He did stay up way past his bed time but, isn't that what kids do when they're away from home?
Kye's doing fabulous as you can see. He's got 4 teeth moving in and wrecking havoc. Still tying to decide on names, I've got some good ones to choose from! Maybe I'll put'm in a hat and pick that way. Tune in next week for the introductions!

April 19 2010

Went for a walk today. These pictures were taken right after he realized I was behind and above him. It's funny because at this age he's just now discovering that things don't vanish just because he can't see them.

Well he was a fussy boy today. He's actually cutting FOUR teeth. Yup, all along the top. So we've got Gilbert and Sullivan on bottom, Gooch, Ichabod.....and ...we need names people! Lets get with it here, we've got a lot of teeth to name don't start slacking now! Geeze...
This was his first day on the fortifier...did I mention the doctor at the follow up recommended I put him on it? Well if not..He recommended I add fortifier into his bottles... If you remember, in the NICU, this didn't sit well with the Boy's belly. He's bigger and stronger now so hopefully his gut can handle it. Anyway, I'm watching him carefully for signs of discomfort. I'm certain today was all about the teeth. He was up and down all day, from crazy giggles to miserable pitiful little boy. Poor kid, he's behind on just about everything except his teeth! Gonna be five years old wearing 0-3 month onzies sporting a mouth full of chompers! Gonna have to put him Karate...sigh.
But seriously, the doctors not overly concerned he'd just like to see him gain some weight and length. After this week we're going to add olive oil to his diet, extra fat.
Good night all and thanks so much for following this fabulous boy. It's nice to be loved by so many...he told me to say that.

Helloooo ALL!!!

I know, I know, you've been waiting for more! Well thanks for your patience, this beautiful boy of ours sure demands a lot of my attention...God love his little tater hole. Don't ask, my Gramps used to say it, I have no idea what it means! ha ha

We had his first NICU follow up visit! This is a voluntary program that follows preemies and tracks their progress. I know for the first year there are a few visits, not sure how long it continues. It went well! He's doing great considering where he came from. Physically he's a little behind his gestational age, by about 3 weeks. The doctor said he believes the pec and lung issues are to blame and that he'll catch up. Mentally he right on cue! well here's a few pictures...enjoy!

THis is from the day before...playing outside in the grass....make ya wanna scoop him up doesn't it!!!
We spent the entire day together yeasterday. Heres a shot from the CF Auction we went to. He was amazing! No fussing here...well till the end but, who could blame him we'd been out ALL day
Play'n in his 'entertainment center'

HAPPY LATE EASTER PEOPLE!!!

Here's a couple pictures from Kye's bunny photo shoot...kid sure loves the camera!

Kye's very first sleep over went very well. He was a good boy, smiling, giggling and charming the pants off of everyone! And of course Grandma spoiled to poo right out of him..well maybe not ALL the poo but a good majority of it! ;-) We expected no less!

It was nice to spend the day with Zeke with no responsabilities. We celebrated out 13th year together by getting massages, having lunch and just hanging out. It was a much needed break...of course we took off for the Lake sooner then we'd planned. Zeke's idea..you know, to beat traffic.
Grandma Byrd and Aunt Doris came up to spend Easter too. The Easter Bunny stopped by their house too! Man that dude gets around!

The Easter Bunny decided to hide Kye's basket at Grandma and Grandpa's house so Daddy helped him find it...

Nope not down there...
Not in the bucket...
Finally found it.

Grandpa got him his first fishing pole!!! Yeaaaaa can't wait to fish!! Gotta get just a little bigger ;-)

"I love my monkey toy box/basket..."

Well we have a name for the third tooth...no one commented on the blog but, I had a few suggestions over the weekend. Zeke's Grandpa had a special name for him when he was growing up. Appearently he wasn't fond of the name 'Zeke' so he made up his own! So in honor of Grandpa Byrd...I introduce to you...(drum roll) Gooch!!

Kye's very first Basket!!!
Ohhh the Easter Bunny stopped by Grammy's early!!! Is that the cutest bunny you've EVER SEEN or what!!! That Bunny sure has good taste. He also left a note that said kye has to share his candy with Momma and Daddy...I'm like'n this Bunny more and more!

All is well here. We had his 9month checkup and the doctor said he's doing great! He said his lung sounds clear and healthy and his chest is looking more symmetrical! Oh joy!!! He's almost 15 pounds, which is still on the small side for a 6.5 month old but, still within the 'normal' range.

He's got another tooth coming in too!! We haven't named it yet so suggestions are welcome! I know ,we're a little on the crazy side.

Well Kye will be having his very first sleep over tomorrow...Momma's a little nauseous but Kye's excited. Grandma and Grandpa are gonna show him around their neck of the woods, I know they can't wait!
